Janice M. Gould Endowed Memorial Scholarship

The Janice M. Gould Endowed Memorial Scholarship supports undergraduate students in the College of Letters, Arts, and Sciences to honor the life of Professor Janice M. Gould. To learn more about her life and legacy, you may read her biography. To qualify, students must be majoring in English, Visual and Performing Arts or Women’s and Ethnic Studies and demonstrate financial need by submitting the FAFSA by March 1. Native Americans, global indigenous students and women are particularly encouraged to apply for this scholarship; however, a student’s race, ethnicity or gender will not be considered a factor in the selection process.

Recipients will be notified of scholarship results in May.

  1. Janice Gould was many things--a poet, a scholar, a martial artist, an activist, and more. As a poet, Janice used art in part as a vehicle for self-realization, elsewhere as a way to connect to other people and to have a sense of community. In a MINIMUM OF 300 WORDS, if you could choose a form of artistic expression, what is an experience or story you would share with others both as a vehicle of self-realization and to have a sense of community? MAXIMUM OF 500 WORDS allowed. Essays will be ranked based upon content, length, grammar, spelling, organized structure, and attention to detail. You are encouraged to write an essay that grabs the attention of the reader by being creative and using rich language.
